Irish Showing Bloodlines
Caillie is a lovely golden dun mare who had already bred two foals when purchased from the October 2005 sales in Connemara. She is a wonderful brood mare who has thrown fillies to date – all of the same stamp – with excellent conformation and action.
Her dam, Castle Cailin Ard, had a cracking 2006 showing year, coming 3rd at Clifden, Supreme Champion at Claddaghduff & taking All Ireland Supreme Champion at Roundstone. In 2010 she achieved Reserve Champion at the Clifden Show in her 18th year. Her grand-dam is Castle Dame – also the dam of Wembley winner Castle Comet. Her sire, Commanding Hero – Grade A showjumper with progeny often placed in the loose jumping competition in Clifden – goes back to MacDara on his sire’s side and Carna Bobby on his dam’s side.
Caillie breeding is for showing – she produces foals that have the substance and conformation for the show ring – proved by the successes of TawnyDun Caramel in Northern Ireland. Caramel moved back to Connemara and then to France, where she won Senior Mare 1st and Reserve Champion at the National Connemara Pompadour 2013.
Caillie does also carry the excellent ‘Sparrow’ jumping bloodlines from her sire Commanding Hero as well as from her great grandsire on her dam’s side – Cuchulainn – both excellent Grade A showjumpers in their time.
Her last foal TawnyDun Regan is by Rickamore Surf (who is now gelded) and I plan to keep her as one of the new generation, but who has their wonderful old Irish bloodlines. Caillie has been broken and is enjoying her ridden career locally to us, giving great pleasure to her rider.
